Any Ideas How To Remove A Shop’s Electronic Security Tag From A Coat?

14 June 2009 940 views 15 Comments

I have just bought my son a new coat this morning, taken it out of the bag and it still has the security tag attached to the collar. Any ideas how I can get it out without taking it back to the shop as the idea was that he could wear it tomorrow.

you have to take it back. they are filled with permanent blue ink and tampering will cause it to run everywhere and ruin your new item

If you need a strong magnet you could use a speaker. The round bit at the back is a strong magnet.

If you have a pair of wire cutters, you can cut the thing off. I’ve done it before when the tag was accidental left on. Get the cutters in between the two pieces and cut the metal prong that hold them together.

Its a wonder you got out of the shop without all bells going off. Whenever that has happened to me; usually Tesco – the girl has forgot to check especially if the item is in plastic wrapping etc – the bells have gone off and I have to go back and get the tag removed – they apologise of course; but it is very embarrassing to say the least.

It depends on the type of security tag, you need to be careful cos some have ink inside them that if you try and smash it off the ink will ruin the coat, you could try wrapping the tag as tightly as possibly with clingfilm before snapping the pin if it is this type (not that i have ever done this type of thing before).

you will have to take it back to the store it did not take you long to go buy it i don’t know why you just don’t want to take it back to the staore to have it removed .and how come the store alarm did not buzz as you were walking out of the store how did you manage that.

you can’t – if you try you will probably ruin the coat.
some tear the fabric, some have ink inside.
it has to go back for them to remove properly.
    sorry.

you need a strong magnet. hold the round end over the magnet, it will then release the lock.
