Did You Find Any Knockout Bargains Whilst Holiday Shopping This Year?

30 June 2009 124 views 28 Comments

With the shaky economy, many shoppers are looking to spend wisely this holiday season but few are ready to sacrifice the quality of their gifts to do so. Online shopping has proven to be a great source for deals and comparison shopping … if you know how and where to look for them. Brick-and-mortar stores are also looking for unique ways to drive up sales for what has been forecasted as a lean holiday season. But there are still some pretty cool offers out there — both online and in store — have you found any?

You bet! Sears last week had 1/2 price off its clearance toys.
BookCloseouts had books for .99 and up and free shipping – I bought a boxful of hardcover fiction and non-fiction, some of which will be gifts.
Zellers also had a huge sale on toys a few weeks ago – our store was out of stock of the things I wanted, so I ordered online – some LeapFrog items.
Avon.ca has great sales, and free shipping.
I shop online most especially when there are free shipping offers – and things on sale, as well. I also belong to an online community where you get cashback for shopping through their sponsors.

Well, At Lasenza, everything is buy one get one half off, buy one get one free, ten for fifteen etc.
Basically, I did my dads shopping for my mom, shopping for my boyfriends mom, and a little shopping for me.
The total bill came out to a little over $140 but I only paid $100 with all my discounts, coupons and memberships!
    It was great!
Lasenzas probably got the best sales I’ve seen.
As well as bluenotes. Basically everything is buy one get one half off.

For any of you baseball fans out there, if you go to mlb.com or to the website of your favorite team, you can sign up for fan emails. Over the last month or so I’ve received numerous email specials on fan gear from mlb.com’s shop. Two current ones are “40% off selected jerseys” and “Buy any item, get another of equal or lesser value for 50% off”. They seem to have new deals every few days; some last for only a few hours, and some run for a week or so. Great deals for the ball fan in your life!

I wanted to buy some fast dry moisture-wicking towels. I had read about them in several different magazine reviews. I called the company that makes them (Discovery Trekking Outfitters) and simply asked for a deal. They offered to give me a coupon discount code to use. If I had not called, I probably would have paid full price…so it pays to ask even when a bargain is not advertised.
The towels are a very hot product because they have Silver in them, which kills bacteria…I was surprised they would give any discount at all but the economy must be affecting everyone!

I tend to do the majority of my shopping research on Yahoo shopping because it has so many products. Although I don’t really mind crowds, I can only spend so much time in a store being run into by people not paying attention. This way, I know specifically what I am looking for and can go in and out without much aggravation. Also, my family is very spread out so online shopping allows me to send things to my niece and nephews in Ontario…and my sister has to do the wrapping!!!

    Yes!
I got a tommy hilfiger sweater for 29$, regular 98$! and Cranium for 10$!
I didn’t know this whole “black friday” thing was big in Ontario, but they want to compete with people who cross into NY for shopping. In the east of Canada its not the same, even with the same store chains!

Yes! at Old Navy, there is a lot of amazing deals! Jeans and camosiles for under 10.00 and cashmere sweaters for 30.00 reg. 75.00. Shop Old Navy!
Sorry but what makes you an “official”, just wondering…
    cheers!

They’ve got some pretty good deals at Toys’R'Us. I purchased on-line and saved $75 plus tax that I would have to pay. But I guess it all depends what you’re looking for. It worked for me! :-D

Online ! Those who I deal with, have fast and friendly service. Much more so than being in a crowded store, with all of the pushing and shoving.

This christmas is going to the best ever. I’m a University student and so I’m pretty much poor. So I went to Zellers one day and had my last $60 to spend on some small gifts for my cousins. Well, turns out I won a lucky door prize thing or omething and so I recieved 90% off every item I purchsed. I knew what to do, I ran to the toy section and got as many “Cars” toys I could find since my cousins love them. They came out at 24 cents each! Then I I payed about $6 for a $49.99 Halo laser tag set. The saving were endless. Let me tell you one thing, it was amazing. I can’t wait to see thier faces this christmas. I wish I remembered to buy wrapping paper though. I am going to need a whole lot to wrap all this stuff.

Always the last minute shopper, I tend to go online to find out where the hot deals of the season are. Then proceed with caution to the store to pick them up. This saves me from aimlessly walking around the mall with a deer-in-headlights look gripping my latte with no plan of action. Usually I am In-out and still have time to get a myself a pedicure. Best deal I found this year was definitely the $14.90 cardigans at H&M, that come in all sorts of colors. Or I simply do all my Christmas shopping online, stress free and in the comfort of my own home. It’s great how many retailers are actually selling online and shipping to Canada….YAY us!

    I did amazingly well.
I do toy drive at work and was given a $100 Sears Gift card towards the drive.
So last Friday, Sears.ca announced that starting Dec 5 to 19th or while supplies last that for their online OUTLET section, they are offering 50% off all toys marked with .94 (you have to check out the site as you need a BONUS number to place this order) and I was able to maximize for $100, 21 toy items.
I got the order today and was extremely happy with everything…
    Here’s the link….good luck….happy shopping!http://www.sears.ca/gp/browse.html/ref=s…
ps….the bonus number is added at the end when you place your order

Nothing to speak of. I did tighten my belt, knocked the nieces and nephews off the wish list, (guess there goes the favourite aunt of the year award…) and was able to spend more on immediate family, but I’ve made a pact not to spend money on frivilous things anymore and ripped up my credit card. The kids made a wish list and I got them what they wanted. Hubby and I get our own gifts, (it works out much better that way!) and the old folks they’re easy to please.
I’m sick and tired of corporations stealing our money and our health from us. It’s too easy to spend what you dont have.
From hereon in my purchases are cash or nothing…just like my parents did and you know what? They own three houses now. Looks like they did something right after all.
Sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear.
As for the stores…they must know it’s going to be a sorry Christmas…prices are slashed, and everyone price matches. I guess they know once the consumer goes down, they go down too.
Nothing good to speak of in electronics, gaming and gadgets which is where the bulk of money is spent I’m sure.
A wise mom with kiddies will wait a year and get last year’s goodies on auction at a fraction of the cost.
